Driving Forward Wellness: A Look into Pacific BMW’s 2024 Wellness Program

Taking the First Step: A Walking Challenge Begins

Pacific BMW kicked off the 2024 year by initiating the “Step Challenge.” Twenty-five employees attended an intro meeting in January where they met fitness coach, Nzhde Avay-Petrosyan. He recommended healthy lifestyle tips and gave insight into the benefits of the challenge. Those benefits include boosting energy and productivity; fostering team building and engagement, and supporting weight management.

At the end of the meeting, employees received their complimentary Fitbits to track their steps throughout the year and have the chance to win prizes at future “Step Challenge” meetings. Check out our post for the second meeting to see the progress of our active employees!

Finding Strength and Serenity, Seated: Chair Yoga

On April 11, we hosted a “Chair Yoga” class where employees could obtain good stretches and a full workout from the comfort of their own chair. Elizabeth Dovlatyan, Physical Therapist/Instructor, led the class teaching positions that could strengthen their muscles. The benefits of chair yoga that employees got to learn about were having better balance and coordination, reducing stress levels, and improving joint flexibility.

Rolling Away Stress: Discovering the Power of Foam Rolling

Pacific BMW employees had the chance to attend a mobility workshop. The event consisted of Dr. Arem Rostami, a local chiropractor, showing us different types of movements we can do using a foam roller. He also taught us the importance of injury prevention and the types of stretches that are needed for a healthy recovery.

Trailblazer: From the Office to the Verdugo Moutain Race

As the “Step Challenge” progressed into May, employees were given a new opportunity to gain more steps by attending the Verdugo Mountains 10K Trail Run & Hike. The event was held on Sunday, May 5 at 8 A.M, on Brand Motorway in Glendale. The 10-mile hike begins at an elevation of 850 feet and steadily increases in elevation within each mile.

Jessica Valencia, a participant of the “Step Challenge,” attended the 10K. “The ‘Step Challenge’ promoted me to do the trail because it was always a goal of mine to do a race and I felt very accomplished afterward,” said Valencia. She was rewarded with a medal at the end of the race.

Lunch & Learn: Financial Wellness

Taking control of your finances can be a tough job to accomplish, which is why we hosted two “Lunch n Learn” meetings with a focus on financial wellness. Sergio Ornelas from Empower, a financial service company that offers wealth management to individuals and larger organizations, went over the importance of understanding healthcare costs and how to plan for possible medical expenses.

Empower offers a financial management app that employees got to demo for. This included learning about their financial situations, monthly spending tracking, and budget management. The app offers financial calculators, cash flow tools, retirement planners, and much more.

Keeping the Momentum: Step Challenge Continues!

On May 6, the second meeting of the “Step Challenge” happened. Three months after the intro meeting, participants got to hear more from coach Nzhde about fitness and nutritional information. We raffled a personal training session with him and a BMW lunch bag with some healthy goodies. Our two winners from this raffle were Jessica Valencia and Abgail Rojas.

We had additional prizes for our top three employees from Admin, Sales, and After-Sales with the most steps from February to May. Those winners include Sal Acevedo (Admin) with 1,434,881 steps; Sogol Pezeshki (Sales) with 1,547,581; and Marco Valdez (After-Sales) with 1,287,751. They each received a $100 gift card to DICK’S Sporting Goods.

Congratulations to our winners!
